RELATING TO WEAPONS - PAINTBALL GUNS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |

SECTION 1. Chapter 11-47 of the General Laws entitled "Weapons" is hereby amended |
|

by adding thereto the following section: |

11-47-67. Paintball guns – Safety, transportation and classifications. -- (a) As used in |
|
1-4 |
this section, "paintball guns" or "markers" means a weapon powered by compressed gas which |
|
1-5 |
propel marble size paint and water capsules at high rates of speed at targets or other persons. |
|

(b) Paintball guns may only be used in areas designated for paintball use and protective |
|
1-7 |
clothing and eye wear must be worn at all times by individuals participating in war simulation |
|
1-8 |
games. |
|
1-9 |
(c)Paintball guns when transported or not otherwise in use must be unloaded with the gas |
|
1-10 |
cylinder separated from the gun. When transported by motor vehicle paintball guns must not be in |
|
1-11 |
the passenger compartments. When transported by foot the paintball gun must be carried |
|
1-12 |
unloaded and in closed cases. |
|
1-13 |
(d) All minor children and parents or guardians of children who wish to buy paintball |
|
1-14 |
guns must take a "gun safety" course which would include proper assembly, disassembly and |
|
1-15 |
proper use of paintball guns. The gun safety course must be certified and a certificate of |
|
1-16 |
completion must be presented to the seller of paintball guns before a purchase can be made by or |
|
1-17 |
for a minor. |

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
