STRONGLY URGING THE PROVIDENCE JOURNAL TO REDUCE THE PER AGATE

LINE COST OF OBITUARY SUBMISSIONS FOR PUBLICATION

     WHEREAS, It is a sad fact of life that those left behind must bear the emotional and

financial burdens of laying their family and loved ones to rest; and

     WHEREAS, The ever-rising costs associated with burial can be a major financial setback

1-4

for many families; and

1-5

     WHEREAS, The recent rise in the per line agate cost of obituary submissions for

1-6

publication in the Providence Journal newspaper has increased the burden and has left many

1-7

families with no way to notify family and friends of their loved one's passing; now, therefore be it

1-8

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

1-9

hereby urges the Providence Journal to reduce the per agate line cost for publishing of obituaries;

and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

1-12

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Providence Journal employees Maura Brodeur,

1-13

Vice President of Advertising, Larry Ricardo, Senior Sales Director for Classifieds, Sue Walsh,

1-14

Sales Director for Classified, Mike Harwood, Sales Director for Local Advertising.
