CONGRATULATING MOUNT PLEASANT HIGH SCHOOL FOR WINNING BOTH THE | |

GIRLS AND BOYS STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS | |

     WHEREAS, Mount Pleasant High School achieved something rarely done in high school |

sports as both its Boys and Girls Basketball Teams won the state championship; and |

     WHEREAS, The Mount Pleasant High School Girls Basketball Team won its first |
|
1-4 |
championship since 1990 when it defeated Davies 44-20 at the University of Rhode Island's Ryan |
|
1-5 |
Center to win the Division Three Girls State Championship; and |
|

     WHEREAS, Mount Pleasant was led by the sterling efforts of game MVP Amanda Rios |
|
1-7 |
who scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, the leadership of Co-Captain Amanda Kue and |
|
1-8 |
the exemplary coaching of Head Coach Linda Paolozzi; and |
|
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, The Boys team pulled off a major upset when they defeated powerhouse St. |
|
1-10 |
Raphael 59-51 to win the Boys Division One State Championship; and |
|
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Mount Pleasant won this game primarily because they dominated the |
|
1-12 |
rebound battle 46-30 and scored 20 second chance points. No one was more important to Mount |
|
1-13 |
Pleasant's rebound efforts than game MVP Jerome Hodge, a senior center, who scored 13 points |
|
1-14 |
and grabbed an incredible 19 rebounds, 11 of which were offensive rebounds; and |
|
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, Mount Pleasant was also led by playoff MVP Terrence Dunstan who scored |
|
1-16 |
16 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and had 3 steals, Russell Ford-Brown who scored 13 points and |
|
1-17 |
grabbed 7 rebounds, and the steady leadership of Head Coach Chris Coleman; now, therefore be |

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
|

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Mount Pleasant High School for winning both the |
|

Girls and Boys State Basketball Championships; and be it further |

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Coaches Linda Paolozzi and Chris Coleman. |
