RELATING TO THE SALE OF CIGAR AND CIGARETTE LIGHTERS TO CHILDREN | |
UNDER THE AGE OF 18 | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |

     SECTION 1. Chapter 11-9 of the General Laws entitled "Children" is hereby amended by |

adding thereto the following section: |

     11-9-20.1. Sale of cigar and cigarette lighters. -- (a) No person, firm or corporation |
1-4 |
that owns, manages or operates a place of business including vending machines shall knowingly |
1-5 |
sell, give or deliver any cigar or cigarette lighter to any child under the age of eighteen (18) years. |
1-6 |
The owner, operator or manager of a place of business where cigar and cigarette lighters are sold |
1-7 |
shall post a notice of this law conspicuously in such place of business in letters at least three- |
1-8 |
eighths of an inch (3/8”) high. Signs required by this section may be provided by the department |
1-9 |
of health at cost. |
1-10 |
     (b) Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be fined one hundred dollars |
1-11 |
($100) for each offense. |
1-12 |
     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
