EXTENDING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF HENRY C. HAWKINS | |

     WHEREAS, It is with deep regret and sadness that we have learned of the passing of |

Henry C. Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins was born on December 10, 1903, in Glocester, Rhode Island, |
1-3 |
son of the late Dexter and Helen (Cutler) Hawkins. He was the beloved husband of the late |
1-4 |
Marion (Bowen) Hawkins; and |
1-5 |
     WHEREAS, Mr. Hawkins owned and operated the H.A. Hawkins & Sons Lumber Yard |
1-6 |
for many years, retiring in 1960. He also owned and operated the Hawkins General Store from |
1-7 |
1924 to 1936; and |
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, Henry Hawkins was a Charter Member of the West Glocester Volunteer |
1-9 |
Fire Company and served as its first Chief. He was also a Member and past Master of the |
1-10 |
Friendship Lodge, F & AM, in Chepachet and a past Patron of the Philia Chapter of the Order of |
1-11 |
the Eastern Star in Chepachet; and |
1-12 |
     WHEREAS, Mr. Hawkins was a major benefactor to the Town of Glocester and to West |
1-13 |
Glocester Elementary School. In addition, he served on the Glocester Town Council from 1928 to |
1-14 |
1951 and also served on the Budget Board and as Deputy Town Clerk. He was a past Chairman |
1-15 |
of the Glocester Republican Town Committee and a Member of the Rhode Island House of |
1-16 |
Representatives from 1958 to 1962 and represented District 27 in the State Senate from 1962 to |
1-17 |
1966; now, therefore be it |

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
1-19 |
hereby expresses our deepest sympathies to the Hawkins family on the passing of Henry C. |
1-20 |
Hawkins and that he will forever be remembered by the citizens of the Town of Glocester and |

this entire membership for his commitment to his community and concern for others; and be it |

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to |
2-4 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Hawkins family. |
