THE PASSING OF FATHER GUILLERMO CORRALES | |

     WHEREAS, Guillermo Leon Corrales Bedoya was born on May 3, 1960, in Medellin, |

Colombia, the son of Ramon Antonio Corrales and Anna Mercedes Bedoya; and |

     WHEREAS, Raised and educated in Colombia, Guillermo Leon Corrales Bedoya was |
1-4 |
ordained as a Carmelite on June 17, 1989 and had several assignments in Colombia; and |
1-5 |
     WHEREAS, Father Corrales was assigned to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary |
1-6 |
Church in Providence on April 12, 1996; he was especially recognized for his work in the Latino |
1-7 |
community in the West End of Providence; and |
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, In the year 2001, Father Corrales became a member of the Diocese of |
1-9 |
Providence. In addition, he became Chaplain to the Rhode Island Hospital, where he |
1-10 |
administered to the spiritual needs of the ill; and |
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Father Corrales grew deep community roots in Rhode Island. Nevertheless, |
1-12 |
he annually visited Colombia to see family, friends and would oftentimes minister to people |
1-13 |
residing in the mountains, who otherwise would not have access to a priest; and |
1-14 |
     WHEREAS, Father Corrales was an outspoken proponent for justice and peace in his |
1-15 |
native country of Colombia. On January 14, 2002, while in the performance of his acts and deeds |
1-16 |
in Colombia, he became a victim of the brutal violence he fought so hard against; and |
1-17 |
     WHEREAS, Father Corrales is survived by family in Rhode Island and Colombia, |
1-18 |
including his brother Fernando of Central Falls, his sister Aracely of Pawtucket, and his sister |
1-19 |
Sonya of Central Falls; now, therefore be it |
1-20 |
     RESOLVED, That we here gathered do hereby extend our deepest sympathy to the entire |

family of Father Corrales and to the Diocese of Providence. |
