CELEBRATING THE LIFE AND HONORING THE MEMORY OF RICHARD B. KILEY

     WHEREAS, Richard B. Kiley, a native son of Pawtucket, and an adopted son of Block

Island, was a public servant and friend to the State of Rhode Island. He started his long and

distinguished career in public service as a lifeguard at the Block Island State Beach Pavilion, and

1-4

ended it as First Warden of the Town of New Shoreham, an office he held at the moment of his

1-5

untimely death on August 14, 2001; and

1-6

     WHEREAS, Those Block Island bookends encased volumes of widely varied service to

1-7

his state and country, including serving as a Social Worker, House Representative from

1-8

Pawtucket, Deputy Speaker of the House, National Guardsman, Block Island lobbyist and a

1-9

multitude of additional roles. His tireless work, on behalf of the population he so often said he

1-10

felt honored to serve, spanned decades; now, therefore be it

1-11

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

1-12

Providence Plantations formally recognizes Statesman, Restaurateur and Friend Richard B. Kiley

1-13

for his contributions to the City of Pawtucket, the Town of New Shoreham, the State of Rhode

1-14

Island and the United States of America, and extends its heartfelt condolences to his wife and

1-15

children; and be it further

1-16

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is authorized and directed to transmit

1-17

a duly certified copy of this resolution to Lucille Kiley.
