S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N
CONGRATULATING ANN CLAIRE ASSUMPICO ON RECEIVING THE 2001" WOMEN OF THE YEAR AWARD"
WHEREAS, From her early years as a child, Ann Claire Assumpico knew she wanted to make a significant difference in this world. She knew she wanted to help people. Law enforcement was the path she chose to achieve those goals; and
WHEREAS, During twenty-four years of dedicated service in law enforcement, Ann has been a correctional officer at the Adult Correctional Institution, a Coventry Police Officer and is currently a Rhode Island State Trooper; and
WHEREAS, Ann Claire Assumpico was the first female on the Coventry Police Force and the A.C.I. Swat Team and was the first female to lead that team. She was the first female to shoot a perfect firearms score on the Coventry Police Department gun range and as a State Trooper, the first female to head the Honor Guard Unit, the first female on the Quick Response Team, the first female Defensive Tactics Instructor and the first female state trooper to be a certified firearms instructor; and
WHEREAS, In addition to Ann's enormous inroads for women in law enforcement, she was also voted Outstanding Female Athlete in high school and is an inductee into the West Warwick High School Athletic Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Ann's pioneering spirit and numerous accomplishments show her to be a unique woman in what has traditionally been a male dominated field; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby honors and congratulates Ann Claire Assumpico on her many outstanding achievements and on being named one of the 2001 "Women of the Year" by the Rhode Island Commission on Women; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Ann Claire Assumpico.
