EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF CHARLES RODERS, JR.

WHEREAS, It is with deep regret and sadness that we have learned of the passing of Charles J. Rogers, Jr., a former Marine, District Court Judge, and lawyer who practiced in state and federal courts from Massachusetts to Florida; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Rogers, son of Providence police officer, the late Charles J. and Mary (Luby) Rogers, Sr. graduated from LaSalle Academy in 1947, Providence College in 1952, and Boston University Law School in 1958; and

WHEREAS, A lawyer for 42 years, Charles Rogers conducted several campaigns for public office including candidacies for Attorney General in 1978 and for Mayor of Warwick in 1966. He served as Warwick's assistant city solicitor from 1960 to 1962 and was the Police Department prosecutor; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Rogers, an outstanding defense atttorney, respected lawyer and true gentlemen will be sorely missed by all who knew him; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby expresses our deepest sympathies to Mrs. Pauline Rogers, Ms. Donna Rogers and the entire Rogers family on the passing of Mr. Charles J. Rogers, Jr. and that he will forever be remembered by this membership for his commitment to the citizens of the State of Rhode Island; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Pauline Rogers.
