S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N
HONORING REPRESENTATIVE NANCY BENOIT ON SIXTEEN YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF WOONSOCKET AND STATE OF RHODE ISLAND
WHEREAS, Representative Nancy Benoit has served the 64th District of the Rhode Island House of Representatives with distinction and accomplishment; and
WHEREAS, Representative Nancy Benoit will be completing her eighth term in office on December 31, 2000, after having served in the House of Representatives for sixteen years; and
WHEREAS, Representative Nancy Benoit presided as chair of the Health, Education, and Welfare Committee of the House of Representatives with fairness and concern for all, whether they were members of the general public, advocates, government officials or colleagues in office; and
WHEREAS, Representative Nancy Benoit distinguished herself as an effective and forceful champion of the State's most needy citizens, whether they be children, poor, minority, physically disabled, mentally disabled, elderly, unemployed, or the homeless; and
WHEREAS, Representative Nancy Benoit received the respect and regard from her peers for her legislative work, especially her efforts to help children improve their health and education status; and
WHEREAS, Representative Nancy Benoit has worked on just about every piece of meaningful legislation affecting the social, economic, and health standing of all Rhode Islanders, notably being in the vanguard with such initiatives as Welfare Reform and RIte Care; and
WHEREAS, Representative Nancy Benoit is an especially remarkable elected official inasmuch as she is known for always working toward consensus and never seeks to grab the headline; and
WHEREAS, Representative Nancy Benoit has left an indelible mark on the Legislature and a record of achievement for all elected officials to emulate; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby extends its sincerest congratulations to Representative Nancy Benoit for a job extremely well done; and be it further
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island offers every best wish to Representative Nancy Benoit as she concludes her assignment as the well-liked, well-respected, well-admired, and most accomplished representative from the 64th House District in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, bringing credit and pride to the legislature, all elected officials, her family, and herself; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Nancy L. Benoit.
