RELATING TO FIREFIGHTERS' ARBITRATION

Introduced By:  Senators Gallo, Ruggerio and Kells Date Introduced:  February 8, 2000 Referred To:  Committee on Labor

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 28-9.1-17 of the General Laws in Chapter 28-9.1 entitled "Firefighters' Arbitration" is hereby amended to read as follows:

28-9.1-17. Continuance of contractual provisions. -- All contractual provisions contained in a collective bargaining agreement entered into pursuant to the provisions of this chapter shall continue in the following collective bargaining agreement unless either the bargaining agent or the corporate authority shall, in writing, within the thirty (30) day period referred to in section 28-9.1-7, propose a change in any contractual provision., in which case, none of the rights or benefits conferred upon the employees by the expiring collective bargaining agreement shall be diminished or suspended in any way, unless and until the new collective bargaining agreement has been ratified in writing by both the employer and the employees of their duly authorized representative or has been awarded by any arbitration panel convened pursuant to this chapter.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

This act would require that the rights or benefits conferred on employees by an expiring collective bargaining agreement would continue until a new agreement is ratified.

This act would take effect upon passage.
