H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N
CONGRATULATING DAVID LAWRENCE ON HIS RETIREMENT
WHEREAS, David Lawrence, a respected and exceptional leader, currently serving as Deputy General Treasurer of the State of Rhode Island since February, 1999 is retiring July 8, 2000; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding civil servant, Mr. Lawrence served as Chief of the Office of Municipal Affairs for the Rhode Island Department of Administration from December, 1988 to February, 1999, School Business Official for the Woonsocket School Department from September, 1986 to December, 1988, and Budget Specialist for the Rhode Island Department of Education from March, 1975 to September, 1986; and
WHEREAS, Before entering civil service, David Lawrence worked as an accountant, taught management courses at Johnson & Wales College and opened Rhode Island Dee Jay Service, a disc jockey service, sound and stage production company that is successfully operating today; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lawrence attended the University of Lowell, and Andover Junior College, where he earned an AS Degree in Scientific Computer Programming. He attended Johnson & Wales University, earning a BS in Management and an AS in Business Administration, graduating Summa Cum Laude; and
WHEREAS, He served his country as a member of the United States Navy, training in Operations Intelligence and becoming a specialist in Electronics and Radar. He is a Vietnam veteran, honorably discharged in June, 1974; and
WHEREAS, A responsible and committed community servant, David Lawrence has served various organizations, including: the Blue Ribbon Commission on Education Funding, the North Providence and Central Falls Review Commissions, the West Warwick Budget Commission, Rethinking Government, Guaranteed Student Education Commission, 2000
Education Commission, Pires Revaluation Commission, the Governor's Tax Alternatives Committee, the Mahoney Commission on School Finance, the Governor's Executive Directorate for Children Services, the McDermott Commission on Special Education, the Lederberg Commission-State Aid/Revaluation and many, many more; and
WHEREAS, David Lawrence is recognized as a leader who leaves a positive mark on Rhode Island's fiscal planning; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, hereby extends its congratulations and thanks to David Lawrence for his commitment to sound fiscal management and for helping to ensure that Rhode Island's economy is prepared to handle the needs of the future; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to David Lawrence.
