H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N
CONGRATULATING BRIAN BOUCHER ON HIS OUTSTANDING HOCKEY ACHIEVEMENTS
WHEREAS, Brian Boucher, a native of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round of the National Hockey League draft in 1995; and
WHEREAS, After spending sometime in the minors, Brian became a star this year with the Flyers solving their past goaltending woes; and
WHEREAS, In his sterling rookie season debut, Brian lead the Flyers to the eastern conference finals playing magnificently in net; and
WHEREAS, Brian Boucher was selected to the NHL all rookie team. Brian was the first rookie since the 1950-1951 NHL season to play in 25 games or more and have a sub 2.00 goals against average; and
WHEREAS, Brian played in 35 games this year and compiled a 1.91 goal against average. He posted a 20-10-3 record, 4 shutouts, and his 918 save percentage was the 4th best in the NHL; and
WHEREAS, Boucher is now considered one of the best goal tenders in the National Hockey League after his outstanding performance in the 1999-2000 season; and
WHEREAS, Boucher started playing hockey at an early age in the Woonsocket Youth Hockey program, and then played for the perennial state champion hockey team, Mount St. Charles; and
WHEREAS, Boucher excelled at Mount St. Charles leading them to three state championships and earning All State honors in the 92-93 and the 93-94 seasons before leaving in his senior year to go pro; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Brian Boucher on his outstanding hockey achievements over the years; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Brian Boucher.
