CONGRATULATING THE LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM ON THEIR WINNING THE RHODE ISLAND INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE CLASS B-STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

WHEREAS, Lincoln High School won its second Interscholastic League Class B-State title in four years with a 9-7, 14 inning four hour victory over Johnston in the third game of their Providence Journal - Pawtucket Red Sox title series at McCoy Stadium; and

WHEREAS, The Lincoln High School baseball team went 21-5, overall in the Rhode Island Interscholastic Class B league; and

WHEREAS, Lincoln earned a birth in the championship series by defeating Ponaganset in the final game of the playoff series by a score of 2-0; and

WHEREAS, Ryan Whitehead who had tossed a no hitter in Lincoln's 1-0 victory in the opening game of the series, came back with seven sterling innings of five hit, one run relief to both win the game and win the Chet Nicholas MVP Award; and

WHEREAS, In the final game of the series Josh Labossier snapped a 6-6 tie with his clutch two out single to center field, and Lincoln shortstop Mike Leone followed with a two run double for what would prove to be the winning margin; and

WHEREAS, Lincoln was managed by legendary high school baseball skipper John Rekos who has coached Lincoln's baseball team for 29 years; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives hereby congratulates Lincoln High School baseball team for winning the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Class B-State Championship; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Lincoln High School Baseball Manager, John Rekos.
