HONORING BARBARA M. TUFTS POSTHUMOUSLY ON THE RENAMING OF THE LONDON STREET PLAYGROUND IN HER HONOR

WHEREAS, A preschool innovator, teacher and administrator, Barbara Tufts founded the East Greenwich Cooperative Children's Center, a preschool program, 30 years ago; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Tufts, a woman of numerous achievements, was first elected to the East Greenwich Town Council in 1984 and served as vice president for four years and as president for another four years; and

WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant, Barbara was appointed to the East Greenwich Board of Canvassers in 1993, a position she held until August, 1998 when she resigned to run for another term on the East Greenwich Town Council; and

WHEREAS, Not only did she win her elected bid but she was also the top vote getter; and

WHEREAS, Barbara's career of distinguished public service also included service as President of the East Greenwich Rotary and President of the West Bay League of Women Voters;

now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the state of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby recognizes Barbara M. Tufts for her community spirit and leadership, and for being honored by the Town of East Greenwich by renaming the London Street Playground in her honor; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Donald Tufts.
