THANKING JANICE DUBOIS FOR HER MANY EXEMPLARY ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN THE AREA OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

WHEREAS, Janice Dubois has been an ardent supporter, crusader and educator on behalf of battered women and their children since 1982; and

WHEREAS, Janice Dubois has vigorously lobbied for and fought for improved criminal and civil legislation to aid victims and survivors of domestic abuse and to improve the criminal justice system's response to and the handling of domestic abuse complaints; and

WHEREAS, Janice Dubois has steadfastly and diligently served on the Rhode Island Supreme Court Task Force on domestic violence and the Rhode Island Attorney General's task force on domestic violence since their inception; and

WHEREAS, Janice Dubois pioneered the establishment of the Rhode Island Supreme Court's domestic violence unit and has served as the unit's fearless and competent leader and director since its inception in 1987; and

WHEREAS, Janice Dubois has provided thorough, state of the art training for law enforcement officers throughout Rhode Island in the area of domestic violence law; and

WHEREAS, Janice Dubois, as director of the Rhode Island Supreme Court's domestic violence unit, has developed a state of the art, computer-based statistical analysis of criminal domestic violence trends which is recognized nationally as a model for other states to follow; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence plantations hereby thanks and congratulates Janice Dubois on her continuing exemplary accomplishments in the area of domestic violence prevention and we further acknowledge her contribution to the improvement of the lives of innumerable Rhode Island citizens; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Janice Dubois.
