It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 11-9-14 of the General Laws in Chapter 11-9 entitled "Children" is hereby amended to read as follows:
11-9-14. Use of tobacco by minors
Possession of tobacco by minors. -- No person under sixteen
(16) twenty-one (21) years of age shall smoke
or chew possess in any public street, place or
resort, any tobacco in any form whatsoever. Any person under sixteen
(16) twenty-one (21) years of age violating the
provisions of this section shall be fined not more than
five dollars ($5.00) for each offense. one hundred
dollars ($100) to five hundred dollars ($500) for the first offense,
two hundred dollars ($200) to five hundred dollars ($500) for
the second offense, and three hundred dollars ($300) to five hundred
dollars ($500) for the third or subsequent offense.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
This act would make it unlawful for a minor to possess tobacco in public.
