____________ | |
| |
S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N | |
CONGRATULATING THE MOUNT SAINT CHARLES GIRLS DIVISION I HOCKEY
TEAM ON WINNING THE 2011 RHODE ISLAND GIRLS HOCKEY DIVISION I STATE
CHAMPIONSHIP | |
|
      |
|
      |
Introduced By: Senators Cote, Picard, P Fogarty, Tassoni, and Moura
     Date Introduced: March 30, 2011
Referred To: Placed on the Senate Consent Calendar
1-1 |
WHEREAS, In the nine years Rhode Island has supported interscholastic girls hockey, |
1-2 |
Mount Saint Charles has won six of those titles, and won its second title in a row in 2011 when it |
1-3 |
defeated Bay View 7-1 to sweep the finals series 2-0; and |
1-4 |
WHEREAS, Mount Saint Charles compiled an outstanding regular season record of 15-1 |
1-5 |
and finished in first place by two games in the Division I Girls Ice Hockey playoffs. Mount |
1-6 |
earned a bye in the first round of the playoffs and then dismissed North Smithfield in a 2-0 sweep |
1-7 |
of their series. Mount met second place finisher Bay View in the Championship finals and won |
1-8 |
the first game 2-0 in a tense, low-scoring affair won by a first period goal by Lauren Deguire and |
1-9 |
an empty net goal scored with six seconds remaining in the game; and |
1-10 |
WHEREAS, Mount blitzed Bay View in the second game by the score of 7-1, to clinch |
1-11 |
the Girls Hockey Division I Championship. Mount demonstrated the depth of its bench when six |
1-12 |
different players scored a goal. In a four-minute bombardment, Mount Saint Charles scored five |
1-13 |
goals and essentially put the game out of reach; and |
1-14 |
WHEREAS, To win a State Title, everyone on the team, players and coaches, must |
1-15 |
selflessly place team goals ahead of individual ambition and accomplishment. It takes hard work |
1-16 |
and perseverance to prevail in the end. The Mount Saint Charles Girls Hockey Team had those |
1-17 |
qualities in abundance as they were led by Head Coach Stephen Shea and Captains Erin E. |
1-18 |
Rouleau, Caitlin K. Bray, BriAnna B. Narodowy, and Samantha A. Smith. Also contributing |
1-19 |
significantly to the team’s success were starting goalie Sarah A. Erban and teammates MaryKate |
2-1 |
E. Stimson, Allison A. Young, Meredith A. Peppes, Alisha J. Sleboda, Caitlin I. Shea, Kaitlyn M. |
2-2 |
Croke, Marissa C. Heroux, Lauren F. Levesque, Lauren A. Sandbach, Lauren D. Deguire, Briana |
2-3 |
N. Castro, Cassandra M. Czarn, Danielle R. Allain, Allison E. Shea, and Ariana C. Beauregard; |
2-4 |
now, therefore be it |
2-5 |
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-6 |
hereby congratulates the Mount Saint Charles Girls Division I Hockey Team on winning the 2011 |
2-7 |
Rhode Island Girls Hockey Division I State Championship; and be it further |
