H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N | |
HONORING SERGEANT JONATHON LAMOTHE
|
      |
|
      |
Introduced By: Representatives Ferri, Fellela, and Ucci
     Date Introduced: June 07, 2011
Referred To: House read and passed
1-1 |
WHEREAS, Many people go through their lives without any personal contact with a |
1-2 |
potential life or death situation, without a defining moment that turns an ordinary person into a |
1-3 |
hero. Members of America’s Armed Forces often face such challenges - but usually on foreign |
1-4 |
soil and generally in the line of duty; and |
1-5 |
WHEREAS, On the 30th of April, 2011, Sergeant Jonathan Lamothe demonstrated that |
1-6 |
whether he is on active duty or enjoying a little rest and relaxation, he is a true hero through and |
1-7 |
through; and |
1-8 |
WHEREAS, Sergeant Lamothe is stationed with the United States Army near the |
1-9 |
Intracoastal Waterway in North Carolina. While spending some downtime off base on his friend |
1-10 |
William Brothers’ boat, the two friends witnessed a boating accident. An individual had been |
1-11 |
catapulted out of his boat and into the water; and |
1-12 |
WHEREAS, Sergeant Lamothe immediately dove into the water, quickly reaching the |
1-13 |
distressed boater and keeping him afloat until Mr. Brothers could pull his boat alongside; and |
1-14 |
WHEREAS, As he maneuvered his boat into position, Mr. Brothers, and, soon thereafter, |
1-15 |
Sergeant Lamothe, noticed a circle of red forming in the water surrounding the injured man. His |
1-16 |
leg had become entangled in his boat’s propeller; and |
1-17 |
WHEREAS, Sergeant Lamothe efficiently cut the injured man’s pant leg free and with |
1-18 |
the help of Mr. Brothers, the three were soon back in the boat. Unfortunately, it quickly became |
1-19 |
apparent that the man’s injuries were critical, he was bleeding out, and the Coast Guard was an |
1-20 |
hour away; and |
2-1 |
WHEREAS, Utilizing his military training, Sgt. Lamothe formed a tourniquet out of a |
2-2 |
belt and a toy shovel and headed for the nearest dock where emergency medics rushed the injured |
2-3 |
man to the hospital; and |
2-4 |
WHEREAS, The laudable actions of Sgt. Lamothe and his friend, William Brothers, not |
2-5 |
only saved the injured man’s leg, but also his life. Their actions exude the kind of mettle and |
2-6 |
beneficence that define a true hero, and they are truly deserving of our gratitude, admiration, and |
2-7 |
recognition; now, therefore be it |
2-8 |
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island |
2-9 |
and Providence Plantations hereby honors Johnston native Sergeant Jonathan Lamothe for |
2-10 |
rescuing and saving the life of an injured man. We thank him and his friend Mr. Brothers for their |
2-11 |
bravery, fast action, and perceptive judgment; and be it further |
2-12 |
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-13 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Sgt. Jonathan Lamothe. |
