S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF MICHELE R. CALITRI

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Michele

1-2

R. “Mike” Calitri on January 17th of 2010; and

1-3

     WHEREAS, At his passing, Mr. Calitri was eighty-four years old.  He was the devoted

1-4

husband of fifty-five years to Rita (Lefebvre) Calitri, and the loving father to daughter, Elaine

1-5

(Calitri) Felag, and her husband, Senator Walter S. Felag, Jr., of Warren, Rhode Island, and their

1-6

son, Michael Calitri, and his wife, Ellen (Clerkin) Calitri, of Gilman, Connecticut; and

1-7

     WHEREAS, Mr. Calitri was the doting grandfather of four grandchildren, Jake Felag,

1-8

Zeke Felag, Steven Calitri, and Diane Calitri, and leaves one sister, Anna Florenzano, of

1-9

Barrington, and many nephews and nieces.  He was also the brother of the late Nicholas Calitri,

1-10

Louis Calitri, Freddy Calitri, Mary Brant, Clara Martone, Ida Castle, Olga D’Abate, and Dora

1-11

Venditouli; and

1-12

     WHEREAS, Son of the late Michele and Carmella (Manuppelli) Calitri, Mr. Calitri was

1-13

born in Barrington, Rhode Island; and

1-14

     WHEREAS, Mr. Calitri served with honor in the Army during WWII as a Technician

1-15

Fifth Grade.  He received the American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern

1-16

Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal.  He was a lifetime

1-17

member of the American Legion Post 10 in Riverside; and

1-18

     WHEREAS, A loyal and hardworking man, Mr. Calitri along with his late brother Louis

1-19

were the owners of Barrington Radio for sixty-three years.  His customers enjoyed his friendly

1-20

personality and marveled at his outstanding mechanical and electrical abilities, evidenced through

2-1

his skill at fixing any television, washing machine, or other appliance; and

2-2

     WHEREAS, Mr. Calitri was the second to last member of an exclusive club known

2-3

simply as the “Green Chair Society.”  Mike Calitri, Joe Puzzullo, Louis Calitri, Joe Cioe,

2-4

Anthony DeSisto, Gary Dorsi, Pete Dorzi, and other members used to sit for hours in front of the

2-5

store discussing sports, politics, potential winners at the local racetracks, and the abundant

2-6

fleecing of America; and

2-7

     WHEREAS, Mike was an avid Providence College Friar Basketball and New York

2-8

Yankees fan.  He loved watching his grandchildren play various sports and having his daughter,

2-9

Elaine, bring him his daily Dunkin Donuts decaffeinated coffee with cream and one Splenda; and

2-10

     WHEREAS, Our thoughts and hearts hold great empathy and sorrow for the family of

2-11

Mike Calitri.  He was a loving husband, a great father, a devoted grandfather, and a terrific uncle.

He enriched the lives of all who knew him and he will be dearly missed in the community; now,

2-13

therefore be it

2-14

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2-15

hereby expresses our deepest sympathies to Mrs. Rita Calitri and the entire Calitri Family on the

2-16

passing of Michele “Mike” Calitri; and be it further

2-17

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to

2-18

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Mrs. Rita Calitri, Mrs. Elaine Felag, and Mr.

2-19

Michael Calitri and Family.
