CONGRATULATING REVEREND JAMES V. FARLEY ON THE OCCASION OF THE 45TH | |
ANNIVERSARY OF HIS ORDINATION | |

     WHEREAS, The son of James and Veronica (McManus) Farley and the brother of |

Maureen Farley, James V. Farley was born on November 8, 1939 and baptized into the Roman |
1-3 |
Catholic faith on November 17, 1939. James received his early education at St. Anthony’s School |
1-4 |
in Providence and graduated high school from LaSalle Academy. He attended Our Lady of |
1-5 |
Providence Seminary in Warwick and St. Bernard’s Seminary in Rochester, NY; and |
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, On June 5th of 1965, James V. Farley was ordained into the priesthood by |
1-7 |
the Most Reverend Bishop Russell J. McVinney, D.D., and the next forty-five years have led him |
1-8 |
on a wondrous and fulfilling spiritual journey; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, Following his ordination, Reverend Farley began his service to God as an |
1-10 |
Assistant Pastor of St. Thomas More Church in Narragansett. The subsequent years saw Father |
1-11 |
Farley gain knowledge and experience through a myriad of parish positions, including being |
1-12 |
named Assistant Pastor of the Cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul in Providence in 1965, St. Jude’s |
1-13 |
Church in Lincoln in 1966, St. Paul’s Church in Cranston in 1969, Blessed Sacrament Church in |
1-14 |
Providence in 1971, St. Brenden’s Church in Riverside in 1976, and then as Pastor of Holy Cross |
1-15 |
Church in Providence in 1986; and |
1-16 |
     WHEREAS, in 1996, Father James Farley was named Pastor of Our Lady of Victory |
1-17 |
Church in Ashaway and St. Vincent de Paul Church in Bradford, where he has served as the |
1-18 |
shepherd of the flock of parishioners who worship and celebrate the word of the Lord with their |
1-19 |
beloved pastor. Father Farley has become a popular priest with the people and this often results in |
2-1 |
standing room only attendance at the masses in which he exalts the gospel and the body and |
2-2 |
blood of Jesus Christ; and |
2-3 |
     WHEREAS, Throughout the course of his service to God, the Church, and the people of |
2-4 |
Rhode Island, Father Jim has accepted and embraced the changes in his life through his surety in |
2-5 |
the knowledge that the Lord was always with him. He has carried out the requirements and |
2-6 |
responsibilities of this title with supreme faith, absolute love, and compelling wisdom, including |
2-7 |
serving as Chaplain at Rhode Island Hospital, Roger Williams Medical Center, the Knights of |
2-8 |
Columbus, and the East Providence Fire Department; and |
2-9 |
     WHEREAS, Father Farley has spent most of his life in devout service to God. Through |
2-10 |
that unification of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, he has served and blessed the faithful, |
2-11 |
enriched the spiritual lives of many Rhode Islanders, and earned our total respect and admiration |
2-12 |
for his achievements, now, therefore be it |
2-13 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-14 |
Providence Plantations is hereby pleased to honor and congratulate Reverend James V. Farley on |
2-15 |
the joyous and momentous occasion of the 45th Anniversary of his Ordination. May he have good |
2-16 |
health and many more years of benevolent service to the Catholic faithful; and be it further |
2-17 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-18 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Reverend James V. Farley. |
