CONGRATULATING REVEREND MONSIGNOR BARRY R.L. CONNERTON ON THE | |
40TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS ORDINATION TO THE PRIESTHOOD | |

     WHEREAS, Reverend Monsignor Barry R.L. Connerton was born October 9, 1944, in |

Newport, Rhode Island. While residing in Newport, he graduated from Hazard Memorial School |
1-3 |
and De La Salle Academy. He furthered his education at Our Lady of Providence Seminary in |
1-4 |
Warwick, RI, where he studied and trained for his service as a priest, and upon graduation he |
1-5 |
received his Master’s of Divinity Degree from St. Mary’s Seminary. He was ordained to the |
1-6 |
priesthood on May 23, 1970; and |
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, Following his ordination in 1970, Father Connerton was assigned to teach at |
1-8 |
Our Lady of Providence Preparatory Seminary and to serve as Associate Pastor of St. Phillip |
1-9 |
Parish in Greenville, RI; and |
1-10 |
     WHEREAS, Father Connerton was named Pastor of Mary Mother of Mankind Parish in |
1-11 |
North Providence in 1984, and for the past eighteen years he has provided leadership and spiritual |
1-12 |
guidance as Pastor of St. Augustine’s Church in Providence; and |
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, In addition to providing for the spiritual needs of his parishioners, Father |
1-14 |
Connerton has also proven to be a dynamic force within the community. He has gained |
1-15 |
recognition for his organizational and administrative skills. Father Connerton has been a member |
1-16 |
of the Catholic Press Association, American Catholic Who’s Who, and the Governor’s Advisory |
1-17 |
Commission on Educational Television. In 2009, at the request of Bishop Tobin, Father |
1-18 |
Connerton was named “Chaplain to His Holiness” by Pope Benedict XVI. A man dedicated to his |
1-19 |
country, Father Connerton also served as Chaplain in the US Army Reserves; and |

     WHEREAS, Reverend Monsignor Connerton has spent most of his life in devout service |
2-2 |
to God. Through that unification, he has served and blessed the faithful, enriched the spiritual |
2-3 |
lives of many Rhode Islanders, and earned our utmost respect and admiration for his |
2-4 |
achievements; now, therefore be it |

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-6 |
Providence Plantations hereby recognizes and congratulates Reverend Monsignor Barry R.L. |
2-7 |
Connerton on the occasion of his 40th anniversary in the priesthood. May he have good health and |
2-8 |
many more years of benevolent service to his fellow man; and be it further |
2-9 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to |
2-10 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Reverend Monsignor Barry R.L. Connerton. |
