1-1 |
WHEREAS, It is with heavy hearts and deep despair that we memorialize Private First |
1-2 |
Class Kyle Joseph Coutu of the United States Marine Corps. We know there is little we can say |
1-3 |
to comfort his family, friends, and loved ones, but we gather here to honor him for his service to |
1-4 |
our nation and to reflect on what a strong, kind, and compassionate person he was, and how much |
1-5 |
everyone who knew him will now miss him; and |
1-6 |
WHEREAS, Kyle was a lifelong resident of Pawtucket, the son of Melissa A. Coutu. He |
1-7 |
graduated from William E. Tolman High School in 2009, where he was the Captain of the |

Principal Frederick Silva as a "natural leader" and "popular kid." Such was his popularity in high |
1-10 |
school that he was universally described as "The Mayor of Tolman." Kyle also worked at the |
1-11 |
YMCA as a lifeguard and was a fun person to be around, always ready with a funny joke or |
1-12 |
observation to lift someone's spirits. Kyle was a loving and respectful young man adored by all |
1-13 |
who knew him; and |
1-14 |
WHEREAS, Kyle, driven by a sense of patriotism, duty, and service to his country, |
1-15 |
enlisted in the United States Marine Corps shortly after high school graduation, fulfilling a goal |
1-16 |
he had harbored since Freshman year. He completed Boot Camp at Camp LeJune, North |
1-17 |
Carolina, and was assigned to serve with the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine |
1-18 |

1-19 |
tragically died on February 18, 2010, while fighting the Taliban in Helmand Province, |
2-1 |
Afghanistan. Kyle lived the Marine Corps values of honor, courage, and commitment, and |
2-2 |
exemplified the Marine Corps motto of "Semper Fidelis," which means "always faithful"; now, |
2-3 |
therefore be it |
