EXPRESSING SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF H. WINFIELD TUCKER | |

     WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this House of Representatives has learned of |
|

the passing of H. Winfield Tucker, the beloved husband of Phyllis Tucker and a highly respected |
|
1-3 |
and widely admired member of the South County community; and |
|
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Son of the late Howard and Marion Tucker, Mr. Tucker was a graduate of |
|
1-5 |
the University of Rhode Island, formerly called Rhode Island State College, where he received a |
|
1-6 |
Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He served in the United States Navy |
|
1-7 |
during World War II; and |
|
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, Mr. Tucker was married to his wife, Phyllis, for sixty-five years, and was |
|
1-9 |
the proud father of Howard Tucker and his wife, Marilyn, Eve Keenan and her husband, Thomas, |
|
1-10 |
Linda Tucker and her husband, Richard Hodgson, and Bonnie L'Etoile and her husband, Eugene. |
|
1-11 |
He was the loving grandfather of twelve grandchildren and also leaves behind a sister, Dorothy |
|
1-12 |
Browning, and a niece and nephew, Marilyn and Barry Browning; and |
|
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, Forging new ground throughout his life, Mr. Tucker utilized his engineering |
|
1-14 |
background to build innovative farm machinery for his potato and sod farm. His clever inventions |
|
1-15 |
earned him a place in the Rhode Island Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2007. In addition, he and a |
|
1-16 |
friend established South County Vineyards, the first licensed winery, in Rhode Island; and |
|
1-17 |
     WHEREAS, Committed to helping others and being a contributing member of his |
|
1-18 |
community, Mr. Tucker was a member of the Board of Trustees for South County Hospital, the |
|
1-19 |
URI Foundation and the Wickford Yacht Club, and a former member of the Hope Club in |
|
1-20 |
Providence. He served as Chairman of the former Pier Bank and was Director of Southern New |
|
2-1 |
England Farm Credit, and was a member of the Peace Dale Congregational Church; and |
|
2-2 |
     WHEREAS, Winfield Tucker's talents and passion for living were abundant, and in |
|
2-3 |
addition to his family, he enjoyed sailing, piloting, his work, and many building projects. He was |
|
2-4 |
a steadfast gentleman whose integrity and determination enriched the lives of all who knew him, |
|
2-5 |
and he will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it |
|
2-6 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
|
2-7 |
Providence Plantations hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of H. Winfield |
|
2-8 |
Tucker; and be it further |
|
2-9 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-10 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Phyllis Tucker and Family. |
