     WHEREAS, Arthur Grasso was born in Westerly, Rhode Island, on January 26, 1920. |
|

He attended Westerly Public Schools and graduated in 1937. Similar to most members of the |
|
1-3 |
"Greatest Generation," Mr. Grasso answered the call of duty when his nation needed him during |
|
1-4 |
World War II and served our nation with honor, courage, and valor. Mr. Grasso served in the 1st |
|
1-5 |
Infantry Division and landed on Utah Beach in Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He was later |
|
1-6 |
wounded in action in September of 1944 in Belgium and received the Purple Heart from a |
|
1-7 |
grateful nation; and |
|
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, Arthur Grasso married Mae, his wife of almost 54 years, on July 25, 1956, |
|
1-9 |
and together they have two children, a son John and a daughter Linda; and |
|
1-10 |
     WHEREAS, Arthur was a successful businessman and community leader for many years. |
|
1-11 |
He ran and operated Wakefield Auto Parts for 40 years before selling it and retiring. He served |
|
1-12 |
from 1961 to 1962 as the President of the South Kingstown Chamber of Commerce. He also |
|
1-13 |
served three terms from 1963 to 1969 as Vice-President and Chairman of the Police |
|
1-14 |
Commissioner's revamped South Kingstown Police Department, making it one of the best in the |
|
1-15 |
country; and |
|
1-16 |
     WHEREAS, Arthur's hobbies include golfing and gardening. He loves the game of golf |
|
1-17 |
and is a member of the Quidnessett Country Club, as well as a life member of both Winnapaug |
|
1-18 |
and Wanumetonomy Country Clubs. He won Quidnessett's four day annual golf tournament in |
|
1-19 |
1984 with partner Peter Edes and had his first (and thus far only) hole in one at the age of 80 on |
|

the 16th hole at Quidnessett; now, therefore be it |
|

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
|
2-3 |
Providence Plantations hereby honors Arthur Grasso on the joyous celebration of his 90th |
|
2-4 |
birthday; and be it further |
|
2-5 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-6 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Arthur Grasso. |
