EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF KENNETH A. LAGERQUIST | |

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of |
|

Kenneth A. Lagerquist, the devoted husband for fifty-six years of Emily Lagerquist and the |
|
1-3 |
loving father of four daughters, Karen Tripodi and her husband Dennis, Lynn Simon, Lisa Varney |
|
1-4 |
and Gail Cameron. He was also the proud grandfather of ten grandchildren and one great- |
|
1-5 |
grandchild; and |
|
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, Mr. Lagerquist served the United States with honor and distinction in the |
|
1-7 |
United State Army Air Corps/USAF during World War II; and |
|
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, Upon his return from the service, Mr. Lagerquist graduated from the |
|
1-9 |
University of Rhode Island, and later founded the Evergreen Tree & Landscape company, which |
|
1-10 |
he ran until his retirement; and |
|
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Mr. Lagerquist was a member of numerous professional organizations |
|
1-12 |
including serving as the Past President of the Rhode Island Arborist’s Association, the Rhode |
|
1-13 |
Island Nursery and Landscape Association (RINLA) and the New England Nurserymen’s |
|
1-14 |
Association. He also worked on the Learning Landscape Project at the University of Rhode |
|
1-15 |
Island, which he helped to develop; and |
|
1-16 |
     WHEREAS, Mr. Lagerquist was inducted into the Rhode Island Agricultural Hall of |
|
1-17 |
Fame for his significant contributions to Rhode Island’s agriculture through his service as |
|
1-18 |
Executive Director of RINLA for eighteen years; and |
|
1-19 |
     WHEREAS, Active in his church, Mr. Lagerquist was a former Senior Warden, served as |
|
1-20 |
a Eucharistic Minister, and was a faithful member of the congregation at the Church of Good |
|
2-1 |
Shepherd in Pawtucket. He also initiated the Church Community Gardens, worked for the |
|
2-2 |
Episcopal Charities, and served on both the Stewardship and the Outreach Committees; and |
|
2-3 |
     WHEREAS, Mr. Lagerquist also dedicated his time and talents to the betterment of the |
|
2-4 |
community. He was a Trustee and Chairman of the Seekonk Library Board of Trustees, served |
|
2-5 |
on the Water District for fourteen years, and was a member of the Conservation Committee for |
|
2-6 |
twenty-seven years; and |
|
2-7 |
     WHEREAS, Our thoughts and hearts hold great empathy and sorrow for Kenneth |
|
2-8 |
Lagerquist’s family. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, grandfather and great- |
|
2-9 |
grandfather, and a hardworking man who always gave back to the community; now, therefore be |
|
2-10 |
it |
|
2-11 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
|
2-12 |
hereby expresses our deepest sympathies to Mrs. Lagerquist and the entire Lagerquist Family on |
|
2-13 |
the passing of Kenneth A. Lagerquist. He enriched the lives of all who knew him and will be |
|
2-14 |
dearly missed; and be it further |
|
2-15 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-16 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Mrs. Emily Lagerquist and Family. |
