RECOGNIZING AUGUST 8, 2009 "NATIONAL MARINA DAY" IN THE STATE OF

RHODE ISLAND IN HONOR OF RHODE ISLAND MARINE TRADE ASSOCIATION

(RIMTA)

     WHEREAS, The State of Rhode Island places a high value on recreation time and its

ability to access one of America’s greatest natural resources, its waterways; and

1-3

     WHEREAS, In 1928, the word “marina” was used for the very first time by the National

1-4

Association of Engine and Boat Manufacturers to define a recreational boating facility; and

1-5

     WHEREAS, Rhode Island Marine Trade Association (RIMTA) serves the community as

1-6

a steward of the environment, actively seeking to protect the surrounding waterways not only for

1-7

the enjoyment of this generation, but for generations to come; and

1-8

     WHEREAS, RIMTA provides this community and its visitors a place where friends and

1-9

families, united by a passion for the water, can come together for recreation, rest and relaxation;

1-10

and

1-11

     WHEREAS, RIMTA will continue to provide an environmentally friendly gateway to

1-12

boating for the citizens and visitors to Rhode Island, just as it has since 1963, the year it began

1-13

operations; and

1-14

     WHEREAS, It is important to recognize August 8, 2009 as "National Marina Day" to

1-15

recognize and honor RIMTA for its contributions to the community and to make citizens, policy

1-16

makers and employees more aware of its overall contributions to their well-being; now, therefore

1-17

be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

1-19

Providence Plantations hereby recognizes August 8, 2009 "National Marina Day" in the State of

2-1

Rhode Island in honor of RIMTA; and be it further

2-2

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-3

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Rhode Island Marine Trade Association.
