HONORING GWENDOLYN VAUGHN ON THE OCCASION OF HER 75TH BIRTHDAY | |

     WHEREAS, Gwendolyn Vaughn was born seven and a half decades ago on May 11th of |

1934. A loaf of bread cost 8˘, gasoline was 10˘ a gallon, and the country was finally turning the |
1-3 |
corner on the Great Depression with the election of Franklin Delano Roosevelt the previous year; |
1-4 |
and |
1-5 |
     WHEREAS, A native Rhode Islander, Mrs. Vaughn was raised in Providence and |
1-6 |
graduated from Central High School. She is the oldest daughter of Gilmore and Dorothy |
1-7 |
Maynard, and is very happily married to Sammy Vaughn. Together the couple have raised three |
1-8 |
handsome sons, Vincent, Richard and Michael; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, In addition to creating a warm and loving home for her family, Mrs. Vaughn |
1-10 |
and her husband worked for more than 30 years at Rhode Island Hospital. The couple are also |
1-11 |
devoted to the community and their church, St. James Baptist Church in Woonsocket; and |
1-12 |
     WHEREAS, Gwendolyn is the heart and soul of her family. She is a gentle and a widely |
1-13 |
beloved woman, who for the last seventy-five years, has impacted the lives of so many people |
1-14 |
with her generosity, joyous spirit, and kindness, that all who have been lucky enough to be a part |
1-15 |
of her extraordinary life, are happy to call her their dearest friend; now, therefore be it |
1-16 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
1-17 |
Providence Plantations hereby honors Gwendolyn Vaughn on the occasion of her 75th Birthday, |
1-18 |
and extends its sincerest wishes for her continued happiness and health, and for all the very best |
1-19 |
that life has to offer; and be it further |
1-20 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-1 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Gwendolyn Vaughn. |
