CONGRATULATING KYLE ROBERT HURLEY ON ATTAINING THE RANK OF EAGLE | |

     WHEREAS, Not every boy, nor even every Scout, qualifies for the high rank of Eagle. |
|

Strenuous physical hurdles, high mental requirements, strong personal character, indomitable |
|
1-3 |
spirit and a commitment to community service are a rare combination of qualities and |
|
1-4 |
achievements to find in one person. Kyle Robert Hurley is just such an extraordinary young man, |
|
1-5 |
and his accomplishments are truly worthy and deserving of our recognition and praise; and |
|
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, As a member of Cub Scout Pack 50 in Portsmouth, Kyle rapidly advanced |
|
1-7 |
through the ranks earning the Cub Scouts' highest award, the Arrow of Light; and |
|
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, Kyle is currently a member of Troop 82, St. Mary's Episcopal Church, |
|
1-9 |
Portsmouth, RI, where he became Tenderfoot in July 2002, Second Class in December 2002, First |
|
1-10 |
Class in June 2003, Star in January, 2004, and Life in March, 2006. Through perseverance and |
|
1-11 |
determination, he has now attained the highest rank in scouting, the Eagle, by meeting all the |
|
1-12 |
extensive requirements; and |
|
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, Kyle's Eagle Scout project benefitted the McKinney Shelter in Newport. |
|
1-14 |
The shelter was in need of fifty backpacks filled with items for winter survival. Kyle devoted |
|
1-15 |
countless hours and an amazing amount of energy to complete this project by obtaining donations |
|
1-16 |
and contributions from church groups, individuals, and corporations. Because of his efforts, the |
|
1-17 |
backpacks were delivered on Thanksgiving weekend and another 21 were delivered recently; and |
|
1-18 |
     WHEREAS, In addition to completing his Eagle Scout Project, Kyle continues to |
|
1-19 |
volunteer his services at the McKinney Shelter. Kyle Robert Hurley upholds the dignity and |
|
2-1 |
virtue of a true Eagle, and has proven himself to be worthy of trust and a truly dynamic leader; |
|

now, therefore be it |
|
2-3 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
|
2-4 |
Providence Plantations hereby honors Kyle Robert Hurley on attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. |
|
2-5 |
Convinced that Kyle's distinguished career in Scouting will prepare him for a life replete with |
|
2-6 |
accomplishments and success, the members of this House of Representatives are certain that he |
|
2-7 |
will continue to dedicate a large part of that life to the service of others. We extend our best |
|
2-8 |
wishes to Kyle at his Eagle Court of Honor on May 9, 2009; and be it further |
|
2-9 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-10 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Kyle Robert Hurley. |
