CONGRATULATING REVEREND MONSIGNOR BARRY R. L. CONNERTON ON BEING

NAMED "CHAPLAIN TO HIS HOLINESS"

     WHEREAS, At the request of Bishop Tobin of the Roman Catholic Diocese of

Providence, Father Barry R. L. Connerton was named "Chaplain to His Holiness" by Pope

1-3

Benedict XVI; and

1-4

     WHEREAS, Father Connerton was born on October 9th of 1944, and was ordained to the

1-5

priesthood on May 23rd of 1970; and

1-6

     WHEREAS, Father Connerton was assigned to teach at Our Lady of Providence

1-7

Preparatory Seminary. He was also appointed Associate Pastor of St. Phillip Parish in Greenville;

1-8

and

1-9

     WHEREAS, In 1974, Father Connerton was chosen to serve as the associate editor for

1-10

the diocesan newspaper. Utilizing his literary skills, he directed business operations, wrote

1-11

articles on church educational issues, and assisted in various editorial roles; and

1-12

     WHEREAS, Father Connerton was named Pastor of Mary Mother of Mankind Parish in

1-13

North Providence in 1984, and for the past eighteen years, he has provided leadership and

1-14

spiritual guidance to his parishioners as Pastor of St. Augustine Parish in Providence; and

1-15

     WHEREAS, In addition to providing for the spiritual needs of his parishioners, Father

1-16

Connerton has also proven to be a dynamic force within the community. He has gained

1-17

recognition for his organizational and administrative skills, has played an active role in enhancing

1-18

the vitality of the parish's elementary school, and serves as Vicar Forane for the Providence North

1-19

Deanery; and

     WHEREAS, Reverend Monsignor Connerton has spent most of his life in devout service

2-2

to God. Through that unification, he has served and blessed the faithful, enriched the spiritual

2-3

lives of many Rhode Islanders, and earned our utmost respect and admiration for his

2-4

achievements; now, therefore be it

2-5

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

2-6

Providence Plantations is hereby pleased to honor and congratulate Reverend Monsignor

2-7

Connerton on being named "Chaplain to His Holiness." May he have good health and many more

2-8

years of benevolent service to his fellow man; and be it further

2-9

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-10

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Reverend Monsignor Barry R. L. Connerton.
