CONGRATULATING REVEREND MONSIGNOR RICHARD D. SHEAHAN ON BEING | |
NAMED "CHAPLAIN TO HIS HOLINESS" | |

     WHEREAS, At the request of Bishop Tobin of the Roman Catholic Diocese of |

Providence, Reverend Monsignor Richard D. Sheahan was named “Chaplain to His Holiness” by |
1-3 |
Pope Benedict XVI; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Reverend Monsignor Sheahan was born on February 22nd of 1944, and was |
1-5 |
ordained to the priesthood on June 28th of 1969; and |
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, Upon his assignment as an Associate Pastor at St. James Parish in West |
1-7 |
Warwick, Father Sheahan also served as Director of Religious Education for the Pawtuxet Valley |
1-8 |
area; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, In 1972, Father Sheahan was chosen to serve as the Director of Admissions |
1-10 |
for Our Lady of Providence Seminary College, and in 1974, he served the Diocese as the Director |
1-11 |
of Vocations; and |
1-12 |
     WHEREAS, Father Sheahan was named Pastor of Our Lady of Grace Parish in 1980, and |
1-13 |
in 1986, he was appointed Pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Parish in East Greenwich; and |
1-14 |
     WHEREAS, In 1992, Father Sheahan became Pastor of Holy Apostles Parish in |
1-15 |
Cranston. In that capacity he not only sees to the spiritual needs of his parishioners, but has also |
1-16 |
greatly enhanced the parish’s facilities over the years; and |
1-17 |
     WHEREAS, In addition to providing for the spiritual needs of his parishioners, Father |
1-18 |
Sheahan has also proven to be a dynamic individual within the diocesan family. He has served on |
1-19 |
budget advisory committees and on the Diocesan Finance Council; and |

     WHEREAS, Father Sheahan has spent most of his life in devout service to God. Through |
2-2 |
that unification, he has served and blessed the faithful, enriched the spiritual lives of many Rhode |
2-3 |
Islanders, and earned our utmost respect and admiration for his achievements; now, therefore be it |
2-4 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-5 |
Providence Plantations is hereby pleased to honor and congratulate Reverend Monsignor Sheahan |
2-6 |
on being named "Chaplain to His Holiness." May he have good health and many more years of |
2-7 |
benevolent service to his fellow man; and be it further |
2-8 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-9 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Reverend Monsignor Richard D. Sheahan. |
