PROCLAIMING MARCH 19TH AS "OCEAN TIDES DAY" IN THE STATE OF RHODE | |

     WHEREAS, Ocean Tides is an educational and residential program founded in 1975 to |
1-2 |
meet the individual needs of at-risk boys in the state of Rhode Island, and has served more than |
1-3 |
1,750 young men; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Ocean Tides believes each individual who comes to their program is worthy |
1-5 |
of respect, needful care, and capable of success through everyday experiences and interactions in |
1-6 |
a highly structured program; and |
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, Ocean Tides has been a cost-effective program flexible enough to meet the |
1-8 |
coordinated treatment needs of each young man and his family. The components of the program |
1-9 |
– Group Living, Education, Extensions, and Social Services – are designed to implement a |
1-10 |
treatment plan for each young man and his family in such a way that the needs of the total person |
1-11 |
may be addressed in a personal, well-programmed and pragmatic fashion; and |
1-12 |
     WHEREAS, Ocean Tides provides a blend of direction, correction, negation and |
1-13 |
affirmation so that each young man may re-enter his community at peace, and in stages that |
1-14 |
provide the necessary support while developing self-sufficiency; and |
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, Ocean Tides is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and |
1-16 |
Colleges, and in each of the past five years, on average, more than 15 boys have earned their high |
1-17 |
school diploma from Ocean Tides. Without the benefit of this program they would not be high |
1-18 |
school graduates; and |
1-19 |
     WHEREAS, Ocean Tides has an outstanding success rate. Eighty percent of Ocean |
2-1 |
Tides' students who complete the program do not get in trouble again; now, therefore be it |
2-2 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-3 |
Providence Plantations hereby applauds the efforts, and supports the goals of Ocean Tides Day, |
2-4 |
an event sponsored by Ocean Tides and the De La Salle Christian Brothers. We furthermore |
2-5 |
congratulate the combined efforts of the Ocean Tides Board of Trustees, the De La Salle |
2-6 |
Christian Brothers, the administrators, teachers, social service counselors, youth care workers, |
2-7 |
office staff, support staff, and many friends and benefactors for their ongoing efforts to help the |
2-8 |
young men and their families served by Ocean Tides to increase their prospects for long-term |
2-9 |
happiness and fulfillment; and be it further |
2-10 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-11 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Brother Brendan Gerrity, FSC, President and |
2-12 |
Executive Director, Ocean Tides, and Jane Genereux, Principal, Ocean Tides, and Brother |
