EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE ALBERT E. | |

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness and regret that this House of Representatives has |
|

learned of the passing of Judge Albert E. DeRobbio, the highly respected Chief Judge of the |
|
1-3 |
District Court and a devoted family man; and |
|
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, For fifty-two years, Judge DeRobbio was the beloved husband of Barbara |
|
1-5 |
DeRobbio. He was the loving father of five children, Robyn Catalano, Albert DeRobbio II, Carla |
|
1-6 |
Franke, Stephanie Pirolli, and Jennifer DeRobbio, and the father-in-law of Steven Catalano, Esq. |
|
1-7 |
and Ingo Franke. He was the devoted grandfather of thirteen beautiful grandchildren, Justin, |
|
1-8 |
Courtney, Adam, Aaron, Albert, Sophia, Yana, Esther, Paul, Aleksandra, Jonathyn, Logan, and |
|
1-9 |
Anthony; and |
|
1-10 |
     WHEREAS, In 1951, Judge DeRobbio graduated from Boston College, where he was a |
|
1-11 |
standout football player, and in 1956 he earned his Juris Doctor from Boston University School of |
|
1-12 |
Law. He also served honorably in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Corporal; and |
|
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, After four years in private practice, six years as Legal Counsel to the Rhode |
|
1-14 |
Island Department of Welfare, and nine years on the staff of the Attorney General’s Office, where |
|
1-15 |
he achieved the title of Chief of the Criminal Division, Judge DeRobbio was appointed as an |
|
1-16 |
Associate Justice in 1976 by Governor Phillip Noel; and |
|
1-17 |
     WHEREAS, Possessing a brilliant legal mind, Judge DeRobbio was nominated to the |
|
1-18 |
Superior Court in 1979 by Governor Garrahy, where he served as an Associate Justice until 1987 |
|
1-19 |
when he was appointed to the position of Chief Judge of the District Court, where he served until |
|
2-1 |
his passing. In addition, he had served as Chief Judge of the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal; and |
|
2-2 |
     WHEREAS, The Honorable Albert DeRobbio basked in the love of his family, enjoyed |
|
2-3 |
the company of his friends, earned the admiration of his peers, and will always have the gratitude |
|
2-4 |
of this state. He will be profoundly missed; now, therefore be it |
|
2-5 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
|
2-6 |
Providence Plantations hereby expresses our deepest sympathies to Barbara DeRobbio and the |
|
2-7 |
entire DeRobbio family on the passing of the Honorable Albert E. DeRobbio. He will forever be |
|
2-8 |
remembered as a highly respected and admired judge who presided with fairness and justice, and |
|
2-9 |
served the people of the State of Rhode Island with integrity and excellence; and be it further |
|
2-10 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-11 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Mrs. Barbara M. DeRobbio and Family. |
