     Date Introduced: June 05, 2008

Referred To: Recommended for Immediate Consideration

1-1

WHEREAS, Rhode Islanders are immensely proud of their local firefighters. This select

1-2

group of men and women put their lives on the line every time they answer the call of a fire

1-3

alarm. They carry their responsibilities with honor and courage, and so it is with utmost sadness

1-4

and disbelief that an irrational act of violence led to the heartrending and untimely passing of Lt.

1-5

James A. Pagano; and

1-6

WHEREAS, The circumstances of Lt. Pagano’s tragic passing will hopefully, in the days

1-7

and months to come, not eclipse the amazing accomplishments of his life. He was a loving

1-8

husband to his wife Adriana, a wonderful and caring dad to his children Adriana and Louis, and a

1-9

devoted son to his parents Anthony and Rosealba. He was also blessed with a large and loving

1-10

extended family, his sisters, Lisa and Jean, his mother-in-law Adriana, many brothers and sisters-

1-11

in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews; and

1-12

WHEREAS, Lt. Pagano also leaves behind his “brothers” at Cranston’s Fire Station 3,

1-13

where he had worked and learned and laughed throughout his fifteen-year career in the fire

1-14

department, and where he had recently earned the rank of lieutenant. Lt. Pagano had always

1-15

demonstrated integrity, diligence and professional conduct, and had easily earned the respect and

1-16

loyalty of all who served with him; and

1-17

WHEREAS, The people of Cranston and neighboring communities have witnessed,

1-18

benefited and enjoyed peace of mind because of Lt. Pagano’s reliability and loyalty, and it was

1-19

that same noble trait of loyalty that kept James close with a group of his childhood friends known

1-20

as the “Garden City Boys”; and

2-1

WHEREAS, Growing up in the cozy neighborhood of Garden City, with rolling green

2-2

lawns and unlocked doors, the “GC Boys” forged bonds of friendship through ball games and

2-3

days of skipping school. The deep bonds of camaraderie James shared with the “GC Boys”

2-4

endured and enriched his life through the decades; and

2-5

WHEREAS, Devotion to his family, friends and the community was just a way of life

2-6

for Lt. James Pagano, and he always tackled it with a smile on his face, laughter on his lips, and

2-7

good nature in his heart. He consistently demonstrated that no goal was too vast and no amount

2-8

of effort was too great. He was an extraordinary individual, and he will be deeply missed; now,

2-9

therefore be it

2-10

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2-11

hereby recognizes and honors Lt. James Pagano for his dedication and commitment to serving

2-12

and protecting the people of this state, and we express our deepest sympathies to the entire

2-13

Pagano Family on his passing; and be it further

2-14

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-15

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Adriana Pagano and Family.
