A N A C T

RELATING TO CRIMINAL OFFENSES -- WEAPONS

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 11-47 of the General Laws entitled "Weapons" is hereby amended

by adding thereto the following section:

     11-47-63. Possession of firearms or weapons in airports. – (a) No person shall possess

1-4

or transport or attempt to transport any firearm or other unauthorized weapons through any

1-5

security checkpoint or in any restricted area on airport property.

     (1) For the purposes of this section, "airport property" means the property of any public

1-7

airport facility as defined in section 1-2-3.1.

     (2) Every person violating the provisions of this section shall, upon conviction, be

1-9

sentenced to imprisonment for not less than one year nor more than five (5) years, or shall be

1-10

fined not less than five hundred dollars ($500) nor more than five thousand dollars ($5,000).

     (b) The provisions of this section shall not apply to any person who shall be exempt

1-12

pursuant to the provisions of section 11-47-8 while in the performance of duty or individuals with

1-13

documented authorization to carry weapons onto an airline consistent with applicable federal

1-14

aviation regulations.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
