EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF CHARLES J. SHADOIAN, SR.

     WHEREAS, Charles J. Shadoian was born in 1922 in West New York, New Jersey. He

was the son of the late John and Margaret Shadoian and the husband of the late Bertha Shadoian;

and

1-4

     WHEREAS, A 1940 graduate of Classical High School, Charles was an outstanding

1-5

baseball and football player and a great all around athlete. He continued to play baseball at

1-6

Providence College, but chose teaching over pursuing a professional baseball career. His

1-7

education was interrupted with the coming of the Second World War. Charles enlisted in the

1-8

United States Army and earned a Purple Heart after being seriously wounded in France. Upon

1-9

his return home, he completed his bachelor’s degree at Providence College in 1947, and later

1-10

earned a Master’s degree from Rhode Island College in 1961; and

1-11

     WHEREAS, Charles’ career in education spanned fifty years of service to the Town of

1-12

North Providence as a teacher, union leader at Greystone School, a coach for track, basketball and

1-13

baseball, and principal at Centerdale Elementary School. Charles retired in 1991, but stayed

1-14

active as a member of the North Providence and Johnston Boys & Girls Club, Men’s Association,

1-15

the North Providence Booster’s Association, and as a communicant of St. Lawrence Church; and

1-16

     WHEREAS, Charles is survived by his six children: Lynn Havice, Charles Shadoian, Jr.,

1-17

Judith Humphrey, James Shadoian, Dorothy Dominick, and Donald Shadoian; his ten

1-18

grandchildren: Jeremy Havice, Jennifer Ward, Jacqueline Havice, Rebecca Munoz, Jeffrey

1-19

Shadoian, Nicole Hoffman, Timothy Beauchamp, Hannah Shadoian, Catherine Dominick, and

1-20

Finnegan Shadoian, and four great grandchildren. He was the brother of Richard Shadoian; now,

therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2-3

hereby expresses its deepest sympathies to the Shadoian family on the passing of Charles J.

Shadoian, Sr., and be it further

2-5

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-6

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Shadoian family.
