H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE DARLINGTON BRAVES 2007

FOOTBALL JR. MIDGET LEVEL TEAM

     WHEREAS, The 2007 Darlington Braves 2007 Football Jr. Midget Level Team finished

the regular season with a perfect 8-0 record. They won their division and entered the playoffs as

the number one seed; and

     WHEREAS, The Braves stormed through the playoffs beating North Kingstown 30-0,

1-5

Warren Swansea 30-22, and the previously undefeated Edgewood Eagles 40-14 to win the Rhode

1-6

Island, Southeastern Massachusetts Super Bowl; and

1-7

     WHEREAS, The Darlington Braves qualified for the New England Championships as the

1-8

number one seed and once again emerged victorious. After a first week bye, the Braves played

1-9

Waterbury Connecticut and thrashed them 30-12. They followed up that victory with a smashing

1-10

win in the title game over North Middlesex, Massachusetts by a score of 40-12; and

1-11

     WHEREAS, The Braves then flew to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida to play in

1-12

the national tournament. The games were played at the "Wide World of Sports" complex in Lake

1-13

Buena Vista. The Braves won their first game against Tri Cities, California 20-8, before losing

1-14

the championship game in a hard fought contest, 18-0; and

1-15

     WHEREAS, The Darlington Braves were then awarded the Sportsmanship Award. This

1-16

is the most coveted and most prestigious award given at the national tournament. It is awarded to

1-17

the team that promotes and demonstrates sportsmanship through ethical behavior, respect towards

1-18

others, responsibility, and good character. Winning this award is a true testament to the sterling

1-19

character of all the players and coaches on the Darlington Braves team; and

     WHEREAS, The Darlington Braves were led by a superb coaching staff consisting of

Head Coach Thomas Roderick, Assistant Coaches Joseph Amado, Robert Ramos, Mark

Roderick, Thomas Roderick, Jr., Sidney Recore, Juan Vallejo, Donald Carlin, and team Parent

Tammy Roderick; and

     WHEREAS, The outstanding young men on the Darlington Braves 2007 Football Jr.

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby honors and congratulates the Darlington Braves 2007 Football Jr.

Midget Level Team for their outstanding football accomplishments and the great sportsmanship

and character they exhibited throughout the season. We wish all the players and members of the

2-17

coaching staff continued success in the future; and be it further

2-18

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-19

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Darlington Braves 2007 Football Jr. Midget

2-20
