H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING DAVE FLORIO ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT

     WHEREAS, For the past twenty-eight years, the fortunate citizens of the Ocean State

1-2

have been the beneficiaries of the wisdom and dedication that Dave Florio has brought to his

1-3

work as a valued employee of the State of Rhode Island; and

1-4

     WHEREAS, Dave’s educational background laid the foundation for a lifetime of valuable

1-5

service to the state. He attained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management and Psychology, and a

1-6

Master of Arts degree in Counseling. In addition, Dave obtained a coveted Certified Diplomate

1-7

of the American Psychotherapy Association, and a Certified Diplomate of the American College

1-8

of Forensic Examiner; and

1-9

     WHEREAS In May of 1980, Dave entered state service as a Family Court Liaison/Case

1-10

Manager for the Rhode Island Division of Substance Abuse in the Treatment Alternatives to

1-11

Street Crime (TASC unit); and

1-12

     WHEREAS, Through hard work and commitment, Dave was promoted in 1987,

1-13

becoming a Case Manager Supervisor. He transferred to the Department of Corrections/Field

1-14

Service a few years later and held a variety of positions until finding his niche as a Probation and

1-15

Parole Supervisor in the Statewide Sex Offender Unit, a position he held until his retirement; and

1-16

     WHEREAS, Life outside of the job has also been full and rewarding for Dave Florio.

1-17

He is married to his charming wife Maggie and is the loving father of one son, Mike. Dave is

1-18

active with a number of community and professional organizations and is a coach for the

1-19

Coventry Pop Warner Football League and the Coventry Soccer Association. He is also a Past

1-20

Chaplain for the Providence County Sheriffs Association; and

     WHEREAS, Dave is an extraordinary man who truly serves as a model of dedicated and

2-2

conscientious civic service. He is enormously worthy of our emulation and acknowledgement;

2-3

now, therefore be it

2-4

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

2-5

Providence Plantations hereby recognizes and sincerely thanks Dave Florio for the countless

2-6

hours, lengthy days, and the abiding dedication to the task at hand, working for the people of the

2-7

State of Rhode Island. We wish him much happiness, continued success, and fulfillment in all his

2-8

future endeavors; and be it further

2-9

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-10

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Dave Florio.
