EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ROBERT W. WATSON | |

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Robert |
|

W. Watson, the devoted husband of Jane Watson and the loving father of daughter, Stephanie |
|
1-3 |
Watson, and three sons, David Watson, our friend and colleague the Honorable Robert Watson, |
|
1-4 |
and Michael Watson. He was also the brother of Eileen Smith and the late Catherine Aubin; and |
|
1-5 |
      WHEREAS, Born in Providence to the late William and Florence Watson, Robert |
|
1-6 |
Watson had been a long time resident of East Greenwich; and |
|
1-7 |
      WHEREAS, Upon graduation from LaSalle Academy, Mr. Watson attended Providence |
|
1-8 |
College where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. A conscientious and hard-working man, he |
|
1-9 |
was employed as assistant vice-president of Amica Mutual Insurance Company for thirty-six |
|
1-10 |
years, retiring in 1992; and |
|
1-11 |
      WHEREAS, Mr. Watson had also served our country with honor and distinction in the |
|
1-12 |
United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. After three years of active duty, he |
|
1-13 |
continued his service in the reserve unit at South Weymouth, where he attained the rank of |
|
1-14 |
Captain; and |
|
1-15 |
      WHEREAS, Always an active and contributing member of the community, Mr. Watson |
|
1-16 |
was a former member of the East Greenwich Republican Town Committee. In addition, he |
|
1-17 |
enjoyed and was a truly gifted master craftsman in wood working, and was an avid boatsman. He |
|
1-18 |
had been a member of the East Greenwich and Newport Yacht Clubs; and |
|
1-19 |
      WHEREAS, Our thoughts and hearts hold great empathy and sorrow for Mr. Watson’s |
|

family. He was a loving husband and a devoted father. He enriched the lives of all who knew him |
|
2-2 |
and will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it |
|
2-3 |
      RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
|
2-4 |
hereby expresses our deepest sympathies to Mrs. Jane Watson, Representative Robert Watson, |
|
2-5 |
and the entire Watson Family on the passing of Robert W. Watson; and be it further |
|
2-6 |
      RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-7 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Jane Watson and Family. |
