EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF | |
HELEN A. SULLIVAN | |

     WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness and regret that this Senate has learned of the |

passing of Helen A. Sullivan; and |
1-3 |
     WHEREAS, Helen graduated from East Providence High School, and in 1951, met the |
1-4 |
love of her life, Leo Sullivan, at the Historic Looff Carousel in Riverside. The couple married, |
1-5 |
began a family, and discovered a mutual passion for politics. With Helen always supportive and |
1-6 |
usually right by his side, Leo went on to become Mayor of East Providence; and |
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, Helen's life was filled with vibrancy, warmth and enthusiasm. She lovingly |
1-8 |
raised her children Marcia, Leo and Christopher, was the owner of a Century 21 Real Estate |
1-9 |
Office, a communicant of St. Brendan Church, and still found time to devote to local political |
1-10 |
campaigns and community causes; and |
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Helen was a member of the East Providence Democratic City Committee |
1-12 |
for many years, earning the respect and admiration of the many citizens and candidates she |
1-13 |
helped. She was also a former staff member of Congressman Patrick Kennedy who considered |
1-14 |
her to be a great friend and a wise and wonderful woman; and |
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, Although Leo passed away in 1992, Helen's life remained remarkably |
1-16 |
active. She had six grandchildren, Matthew, Cara, Michael, Megan, Haley and Bridgette, who |
1-17 |
brought immense joy to her life. She was blessed with many close friends, and she enjoyed a |
1-18 |
variety of hobbies and interests including dining out at local restaurants and traveling extensively; |
1-19 |
and |

     WHEREAS, Helen Sullivan's loving personality created and nurtured a marriage that |
2-2 |
flourished, and a home that was warm and welcoming. Her commitment to the community was |
2-3 |
commendable and she enriched the lives of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed and |
2-4 |
fondly remembered; now, therefore be it |
2-5 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-6 |
hereby expresses its deepest sympathies to the entire Sullivan Family on the passing of their |
2-7 |
beloved matriarch Helen A. Sullivan; and be it further |
2-8 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-9 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Family of Helen A. Sullivan. |
