ON THE JOYOUS OCCASION OF THE BIRTH OF THEIR DAUGHTER EMILY HART | |

     WHEREAS, On Friday, January 5, 2007, the Honorable Jack Reed and his lovely wife |

Julia Hart Reed were blessed with the joyous birth of their first child, daughter Emily Hart Reed; |

and |

     WHEREAS, Beautiful Emily has already taken center stage at the Reed's home, arriving |
1-5 |
two weeks past her due date, and weighing in at a healthy 7 pounds, 8 ounces; and |
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, Emily's doting parents met during an official Senate trip to Afghanistan in |
1-7 |
2002. They were engaged in late 2004, and married at the Roman Catholic Chapel at West Point |
1-8 |
on April 16, 2005; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, Mrs. Reed is an Iowa native although she spent much of her childhood in |
1-10 |
Maryland. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland and is a longtime professional Senate |
1-11 |
staffer. Her duties include arranging international travel for the Senators; and |
1-12 |
     WHEREAS, Senator Reed was first elected to the United States Senate in 1996, and is |
1-13 |
currently serving his second term in the Senate. He previously served in the United States House |
1-14 |
of Representatives for six years, and as a Rhode Island State Senator for three terms. He is a |
1-15 |
native of Providence, Rhode Island, and was educated at the United States Military Academy at |
1-16 |
West Point where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He attained his Masters in Public |
1-17 |
Policy and his law degree from Harvard University; and |
1-18 |
     WHEREAS, Emily Hart Reed does not yet realize how truly fortunate she is to have been |
1-19 |
born into such a loving and vibrant family who will surely pamper, nurture, and adore her; now, |

therefore be it |

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-3 |
Providence Plantations hereby offers our warmest congratulations to Senator and Mrs. Reed on |
2-4 |
the momentous occasion of the birth of their beautiful daughter Emily. May all her days be |
2-5 |
happy, healthy and filled with love; and be it further |
2-6 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-7 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Julia Hart Reed and Senator Jack Reed. |
