H  O  U  S  E     R  E  S  O  L  U  T  I  O  N

RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THE RHODE ISLAND AIRPORT CORPORATION TO ENCOURAGE RENTAL CAR COMPANIES AND MOTOR CARRIERS TO USE ALTERNATIVE FUEL VEHICLES

WHEREAS, The US Congress has encouraged the reduction of air pollution through the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, and promoted the adoption of economically efficient and environmentally sound transportation policy and the use of nonpetroleum based fuels pursuant to the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991, and the Energy Policy Act of 1992; and

WHEREAS, Due to recent development projects at T.F. Green Airport, air pollution has risen and is expected to further rise as a result of anticipated expansion of transportation systems at the said airport; and

WHEREAS, The use of alternative fuel vehicles in high traffic areas such as T.F. Green Airport would promote environmentally sound and cost-effective transportation policy consistent with the legislative intent of the US Congress; and

WHEREAS, The general assembly has established tax incentives for the use of alternative fuel vehicles, thereby facilitating the use of such vehicles; and

WHEREAS, Due to the high concentration of rental car companies and motor carriers located at T.F. Green Airport, and the burgeoning transportation systems located thereon, it is incumbent upon the Rhode Island Airport Corporation to pursue progressive methods of promoting environmentally sound and cost efficient transportation policy, consistent with state and federal law and public policy; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, The House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby respectfully requests the Rhode Island Airport Corporation to encourage all airport tenants to utilize alternative fuel vehicles; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Rhode Island Airport Corporation.
