| CELEBRATING THE 249TH BIRTHDAY OF THE U.S. ARMY |

| WHEREAS, Since its official birth on June 14, 1775, over a year before the Declaration |
| of Independence was written, the United States Army has played a vital role in the growth and |
| development of the American nation; and |
| WHEREAS, The nature of the Army’s missions has varied depending on the nation’s |
| needs at a particular time, whether fighting a war for survival, developing a transportation |
| network and skilled engineers to support it, providing disaster relief, keeping the peace, or |
| supporting American diplomacy; and |
| WHEREAS, From the first battles at Lexington and Concord to the streets of Mosul and |
| Kandahar, soldiers have always defended freedom and epitomized what is best about America; |
| and |
| WHEREAS, Throughout our nation’s history, generations of brave men and women in |
| the U.S. Army have served with a deep commitment to America’s core values and beliefs, with |
| many making the ultimate sacrifice, giving their lives so that we all would remain free; and |
| WHEREAS, The brave soldiers of the U.S. Army remain Army Strong, the clearest |
| symbol of America’s commitment to freedom and the country’s preeminent leadership |
| experience, going beyond physical endurance and mental preparedness while encompassing an |
| indomitable spirit, and high ethical and moral values; now, therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
| congratulates the U.S. Army on the celebration of its 249th Birthday and honors the servicemen |
| and women who together make it the strength of our nation; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
| transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Christine Wormuth, Secretary of the U.S. |
| Army. |
