| CELEBRATING MAY OF 2024, AS "OLDER AMERICANS MONTH" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND |

| WHEREAS, May is Older Americans Month, a time for all Rhode Islanders to recognize |
| and honor older adults and their immense influence on every facet of Rhode Island society; and |
| WHEREAS, Through their wealth of life experience and wisdom, older adults guide our |
| younger generations and carry forward abundant cultural and historical knowledge; and |
| WHEREAS, Older Americans improve our communities through intergenerational |
| relationships, community service, civic engagement, and many other activities; and |
| WHEREAS, Communities benefit when people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds |
| have the opportunity to participate and live independently; and |
| WHEREAS, Rhode Island must ensure that older adults have the resources and support |
| needed to stay involved in their communities — reflecting our commitment to inclusivity and |
| connectedness; and |
| WHEREAS, Older Rhode Islanders contribute their time and wisdom to make our |
| communities stronger, more informed, and better connected. They are our loved ones, friends, |
| mentors, essential workers, volunteers, and neighbors; and |
| WHEREAS, Older Americans Month is a time for all Rhode Islanders to pay tribute to |
| the seniors who raised and guided us throughout our lives and to honor their contributions by |
| giving them the fullest care, support, and respect they deserve; now, therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island proclaims “Older Americans |
| Month” and celebrates their achievements. We furthermore recommit to providing our elders with |
| the support and services they need to thrive and age with dignity; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
| transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Maria Cimini, Director of the Rhode Island |
| Office of Healthy Living. |
