H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N
PROCLAIMING MAY 1, 2024, TO BE "BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS YOUTH OF THE YEAR DAY" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, Rhode Island’s young people are laying the foundation for a future that is
unbounded with promise and filled with the potential to become tomorrow’s leaders; and
     WHEREAS, Currently, there are six Boys & Girls Clubs in communities throughout the
State of Rhode Island located in East Providence, Pawtucket, Providence, Newport County,
Northern Rhode Island, and Warwick; and
     WHEREAS, At the forefront of efforts in youth development, the Boys & Girls Clubs
offer programs for homework help, workforce readiness, health & wellness, substance abuse
prevention, recreation and more to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to
reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens; and
     WHEREAS, The Boys & Girls Clubs of America Youth of the Year program, which was
established in 1947, is a premier recognition program for Club members; and
     WHEREAS, The Youth of the Year Program promotes service to the Boys & Girls
Clubs, to community and family, as well as encouraging academic success, strong moral
character, and life goals in order to foster a new generation of leaders, who are fully prepared to
live and lead in a diverse, global, and integrated world economy; and
     WHEREAS, The following outstanding young people have been selected based on the
above merits, and proudly represent their respective Clubs, the more than 20,000 youth served by
Boys & Girls Club programs, and the State of Rhode Island as a whole: Wayne McNamara (Boys
& Girls Clubs of Northern Rhode Island), Tyler Moyet (Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence),
Rozaria Dos Santos (Boys & Girls Club of East Providence), Gerardo Carino Jr. (Boys & Girls
Club of Pawtucket), Gionna Michel (Boys & Girls Club of Newport County) and Salem Hale
(Boys & Girls Clubs of Warwick); and
     WHEREAS, It is fitting that this House recognizes those young men and women who,
through their accomplishments have demonstrated their unflagging commitment to excellence;
now, therefore be it
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby
proclaims May 1, 2024, to be “Boys & Girls Clubs Youth of the Year Day” and call upon all
Rhode Islanders to recognize and commend these youth for their significant accomplishments and
contributions to our communities; and be it further
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Rhode Island Alliance of Boys & Girls
Clubs.
