| CELEBRATING AND SUPPORTING THE 5TH ANNIVERSARY OF 401GIVES, RHODE ISLAND'S STATEWIDE DAY OF GIVING ON APRIL 1, 2024 |

| WHEREAS, Winston Churchill is quoted as saying “We make a living by what we get; |
| we make a life by what we give.” Powered by the United Way of Rhode Island, 401Gives |
| empowers every Rhode Islander with the ability to expand their hearts and lives through the joy |
| of helping others; and |
| WHEREAS, Started in April of 2020, to help altruistic organizations during the COVID |
| pandemic, 401Gives provides all Rhode Islanders with “a safe, comfortable, and familiar virtual |
| fundraising experience,” to donate to nonprofit organizations throughout the State; and |
| WHEREAS, Currently, Rhode Island’s nonprofit sector employs 16 percent of the State’s |
| workforce, representing a higher portion of the RI workforce than the manufacturing industry; |
| and |
| WHEREAS, From education to social needs, as well as the arts, parks, and more, Rhode |
| Island’s nonprofit sector touches every aspect of life in our State; and |
| WHEREAS, Over the past four years, 401Gives has raised and distributed $10 million to |
| more than 800 nonprofits across Rhode Island, and attained a donation realization rate, which is |
| how much each organization “took home”, of more than 99 percent of their goal; and |
| WHEREAS, Everyone can make a difference in Rhode Island by helping to build the |
| capacity of all nonprofits in all sectors and geographic locations across the State; now, therefore |
| be it |
| RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
| celebrates and wholeheartedly supports the 5th Anniversary of 401Gives on April 1, 2024, and |
| asks every Rhode Islander to generously donate and grow our State’s culture of philanthropy; and |
| be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
| transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Cortney M. Nicolato, MS, President and CEO |
| of United Way of Rhode Island. |
