H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N
CELEBRATING THE 3RD ANNUAL "RI CRAFT BEER WEEK" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND ON MARCH 1ST THROUGH MARCH 10TH OF 2024

     WHEREAS, Rhode Island has become home to myriad beer manufacturers who quench
our thirst and tantalize our taste buds with an amazing and ever evolving variety of unique craft
beers; and
     WHEREAS, A little more than a decade ago, the State had five breweries while currently
there are fifty in the RI Brewers Guild, offering more than 150 selections; and
     WHEREAS, Small businesses are the backbone of Rhode Island’s economy, with craft
breweries becoming an economic force at the local and state level, contributing $876 million
annually in wages and benefits, and supporting 7,161 jobs ; and
     WHEREAS, The craft brewing industry's economic impact also includes the sale of non-
beer products including food and merchandise sold by brewpub restaurants and brewery
taprooms, and at beer tours of local craft breweries; and
     WHEREAS, Breweries are giving new and exciting life to sleepy commercial districts
and abandoned mills, helping local communities to invigorate and re-invent neighborhoods; and
     WHEREAS, RI Craft Beer Week will feature numerous events and promotions for the
State’s breweries with “events featuring Rhody beers at bars, restaurants, liquor stores and more”
including a hot dog eating contest, the opportunity for a lucky individual to name a new beer,
musical bingo, assorted prizes, and the popular “Rhode Map Challenge” contest, to name but a
few of the exciting happenings around the State; and
     WHEREAS, With innovative offerings, Rhode Island’s breweries are meeting
consumer’s increasing demand, and bringing growth and economic value to our State; now,
therefore be it
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby
celebrates and offers a hardy “Cheers!” for the 3rd annual “RI Craft Beer Week” in the State. We
moreover hope the industry continues to grow and flourish; and
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Nils Weldy, Executive Director of the RI
Brewers Guild.
