H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N
HONORING AND JOYOUSLY CELEBRATING THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ST. ANDREW'S SOCIETY OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, In September of 2023, the St. Andrew's Society of Rhode Island is turning
100 years old. This momentous occasion is being celebrated with a Gala event that includes a
dinner, entertainment, and the Calling of the Clans, which historically was a "Call to Battle" but
today represents a call for unity, cultural awareness, and the celebration of Scottish heritage; and
     WHEREAS, In addition, the 100th Anniversary festivities include a traditional Address
to a Haggis, performances by Scotland's Jim and Susie Malcolm, Grammy Award-Winning
Storyteller Bill Harley, a Piping performance by a contingent of the RI Highlanders Pipe Band,
and Ceilidh dancing; and
     WHEREAS, For the past 100 years, the St. Andrew's Society of Rhode Island has
celebrated all things Scottish, including Scottish life, traditions, culture, food and history. The
organization's inclusive membership is open to Scots and Scots-at-Heart who possess a genuine
interest and involvement in matters pertaining to Scotland and Scottish life; and
     WHEREAS, The organization's mission is "to provide educational opportunities for its
membership and the general public to participate in programs designed to foster and develop a
better understanding of the history, culture and traditions of Scotland"; and
     WHEREAS, Over the past century, the St. Andrew's Society of Rhode Island has
endowed Rhode Islanders of Scottish descent with the opportunity to proudly wear the Tartan and
gather in celebration of their heritage and we are privileged to join in this auspicious Anniversary
event; now, therefore be it
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives hereby honors and celebrates the 100th
Anniversary of the St. Andrew's Society of Rhode Island, and wishes, "Lang may your lum reek"
and good health and every good blessing to you all; and be it further
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copies of this resolution to Richmond Cargill, and the St. Andrew's
Society of Rhode Island.
