RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES - REGISTRATION OF VEHICLES CONTAINING A PROPULSIVE BATTERY

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 31-3 of the General Laws entitled "Registration of Vehicles" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:
31-3-101. Special electric and hybrid electric vehicle registration plate designation. – The administrator of the division of motor vehicles is hereby authorized to promulgate such rules and regulations as are necessary to provide and issue a registration plate for motor vehicles powered in whole or in part by a storage battery. These plates may be made available to owners of vehicles recognized by the registry as electric-powered vehicles subject to the regular prescribed registration fee, and any transfer or remake fees, if applicable.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
