A N A C T
RELATING TO
GENERAL ASSEMBLY - RENAMING OF THE
BUILDING LOCATED
AT THE ELEANOR SLATER HOSPITAL/ZAMBARANO UNIT

It is enacted by the
General Assembly as follows:
SECTION 1. Legislative findings.
The general assembly
hereby finds that:
(1) Since 1905, the
Eleanor Slater Hospital/Zambarano Unit 119 has been
serving the
citizens of the state of
(2) In recent years,
this excellent facility has delivered outstanding health care services to
those Rhode Islanders who are in the greatest need,
including geriatric patients, patients with
developmental disabilities, patients with Alzheimer’s disease, and
those with spinal cord injuries;
and
(3) Eleanor Slater
Hospital/Zambarano Unit serves as an optimal model
for all long-term
care facilities; and
(4) For over thirty (30)
years the patients have been involved in an organized group,
“Patients for Progress.” Led by its president, Frank Beazley, the group is
dedicated to promoting
superior care for all individuals at our state hospitals; and
(5) It is most desirous
to recognize and memorialize the outstanding work of Mr. Frank
Beazley who for over forty-five (45) years has worked
tirelessly to ensure continuous quality of
care for all patients, and who has been and continues to
be a tireless voice for the voiceless; and
(6) Frank Beazley’s
efforts have resulted in a better quality of life for Eleanor Slater
Hospital/Zambarano Unit
residents that have included the rights of patients to access the
community on a regular basis, to wear street clothes, to have
longer hours out of bed, to have
cable television in their rooms and to maintain RIPTA bus
service to Zambarano when service
cuts were threatened. These are but a few of the many
accomplishments of this most remarkable
individual that merit recognition; and
(7) Frank Beazley has
made and continues to make extraordinary contributions
improving the quality of life for both current patients and
future generations of residents at
Zambarano; and
(8)
The general assembly, wishing to memorialize Frank Beazley’s over forty (40)
years
of selfless commitment to ensuring quality care at our
state’s long-term care facilities, does
hereby name the
Eleanor Slater Hospital/Zambarano Unit in the town of Pascoag “The Frank Beazley
Building”.
SECTION 2. Chapter 22-7.4 of the General Laws entitled
"Permanent Joint Committee
on
amended by adding thereto the following section:
22-7.4-118. The
Wallum Lake Road on the campus of the Eleanor Slater Hospital/Zambarano Unit, in the town of
Pascoag shall hereafter be named and known as “The
